Foundational Ideas of Guarding Freedom
- Guarding our Freedom in the Government:
- We promote limited government as intended by the Founders and outlined in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
- We believe government exists to protect our natural rights of life, liberty, and property, and not to solve social problems, pass preventative laws or redistribute wealth.
- We promote self-government and believe the lowest level of government that can deal with an issue should, starting with the family.
- Guarding our Freedom in the Economy:
- We promote free market capitalism, free enterprise, and entrepreneurship.
- We believe financial freedom is the obligation and duty of each citizen.
- We believe the Profit Motive drives the economy and that government intervention through controls, regulations, and taxes destroys the Profit Motive.
- We believe that the socialist idea of the weak and lazy being supported by the strong and ambitious, destroys societies.
- Guarding our Freedom in our Families:
- We believe the family is the basic and most important unit of society and that it is not the creation of the State.
- We promote family autonomy with parents being free to rear their children according to their personal beliefs and values.
- We encourage families to live by principles of self-reliance.
- Guarding our Freedom in Education:
- We believe education is not a right, but a duty. The Founders advocated an "enlightened citizenry."
- We believe parents have the primary responsibility for children's education and should be free to choose how, when and where their children are educated.
- We believe as the Founders did, that fundamental religious and moral beliefs should be included in education.
- Guarding our Freedom in Healthcare:
- We promote family freedom in health care with the right to choose alternative therapies or no therapy.
- We believe health care is a personal responsibility and should not be controlled by the government.
- We encourage individuals to take control of their own health, to become informed, and to avoid deception.
- Guarding our Freedom of Religion:
- We promote religious freedom as intended by the Founders, where opposing a national church was designed to build religious liberty but not separate religion and politics.
- We believe that America does not depend on a shared theology, but does depend on a shared morality.
- We believe that this nation and the Constitution were built on a Spiritual foundation and when the government does not recognize God, it destroys the idea of "God-given" rights, which leads to tyranny.
Biography of Teresa Young
Teresa Young is the editor for "The Guardian", the monthly newsletter published by Guarding Freedom, LLC. She is also the owner and CEO of Liberty Lane, Inc., a consulting firm dedicated to teaching self-realization and promoting freedom in all areas of life. She enthusiastically chose to become involved with the "Guarding Freedom" project which she believes will help people fulfill their life's purpose as they become free themselves and help others to do the same.
Teresa was born and raised within a solid middle-class family in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her parents were both hard working, high school graduates who struggled at times to keep their six children fed and clothed. They taught her the value of a work ethic and encouraged her to get as much education and work experience as she could. They believed that a college degree would lead to financial success.
Teresa graduated from high school with an Art scholarship to Brigham Young University. She later changed her field of study and earned an Associate's degree in Family Studies and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Child Development and Family Relations, with a minor in Psychology. Upon graduation, she was immediately hired as the Administrator of a private school and soon was asked to join the Day Care Advisory Council for Utah. She had the job she thought she wanted in the field of education that she loved, but quickly discovered that in her quest for freedom, she had taken a step backwards. Long hours, high levels of stress, and a low pay scale soon had her sinking into debt and illness.
She decided to make a change and because she had been taught that a good education meant a good job with good money, she thought she had just picked the wrong field. So she went back to school in another field that she loves; self-improvement. Teresa soon graduated in the first class of Aestheticians licensed in the state of Utah and also certified as a Color Analyst. Upon graduation, she was again immediately hired as the Director of training and development for a European skin care and cosmetic company. More money and frequent travel throughout this country as well and Canada, Mexico, and England, gave her a sense of more freedom. During this time, Teresa married Mark Young and began her family. The traveling soon lost its glamour and the stress of the job began taking its toll. She soon came to accept the fact that she was still a slave to her job; she was not free. She decided to start her own business and work from home.
Teresa's husband Mark had recently started his business, (Young Plumbing would eventually support their family for the next 25 years) and they struggled financially for the next few years as their family and their businesses grew in size. Teresa worked with her husband, running the home office for their business, and also continued to fit in time for consulting with clients. She also continued to pursue education, this time in the field of health and nutrition, and soon certified as a Lymphologist, adding another available level of consulting for her clients.
As time passed and her children grew, she decided to return to the field of education where she could still be involved full-time with her children and also help supplement the family income. She started a private preschool in her home where she could teach her own children as well as others. After a few years, when her children were older, she helped start a private K-12 school where her children could attend. This school taught the principles of freedom and encouraged students to become patriots. She was soon hired as the Administrator. When the school closed because of financial difficulties, she homeschooled her children. Until she found another private school that taught these same principles and had her children attend there. She enrolled all of her children and was herself hired as a national executive for the school. She later acted as Dean and then became the Administrator. After several years, with most of her children graduated, she once again chose the path of freedom as a consultant through her own company, Liberty Lane, Inc.
Teresa and her husband love this country and the Constitution and know it was divinely inspired. They have taught their children to honor the founding fathers of this nation, to value freedom, and to learn and follow principles of truth. As they have tried through the years to follow a principled path of free enterprise, they have come to realize that complete political freedom and religious freedom are not possible without financial freedom. When money is the deciding factor in so many areas of life, the choice is not completely free. They believe the path to freedom is through the free market that this country was built upon.
Teresa's passion in life is to help her 9 children and 5 grandchildren (so far), and as many other people as she can, to recognize their own greatness, to understand their own divine purpose in life, and to become free so they can reach their potential. She believes that the "Guarding Freedom" project will give them the tools which will enable them to truly become free: politically, socially, financially, religiously, physically, and mentally.
Biography of Ray Kahn
Raymond (Ray) R. Kahn was born in Rexburg Idaho on August 30, 1984. He is the son of Robert R. and Heather-Kay Kahn who emigrated from South Africa to the United States in 1982.
As a young boy, Ray was interested in the history and foundation of America and believed in supporting the freedom it represented. He grew in knowledge and respect for the Founding Fathers as well as the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States Military, both at home and abroad.
Throughout his childhood Ray dreamed about becoming financially independent so he could provide the lifestyle he never had while growing up for his future family. He wanted to be able to focus his time on more important things like teaching others what he learned; continue to educate himself without financial burden; create new businesses to help the economy, and spend time on his passion - protecting freedom. In essence, he wanted to live "a life worth living" where he could experience the desires of his heart.
As many people do, he faced much opposition in his youth and lost sight of his goals for many years. His family struggled financially and at one point filed bankruptcy, which resulted in the loss of most of their material possessions. Because of some deeply traumatic experiences which affected his outlook on life, he struggled with a devastating loss of self-worth. The fallout from these hardships dashed the dreams he once had as a child and left him believing they were meant for people other than him. He felt he was destined for absolute failure and misery in every aspect in life.
By allowing himself to believe these thoughts, that is what he became. He struggled socially, academically, and physically for years and seemed unable to find happiness or contentment. In spite of this, there was a glimmer of light that burned deep within his heart and he kept going regardless of his doubts. He accomplished many things including competency in five different styles of martial arts, reaching the level of Black Belt at the age of twelve. After graduating high school from Liahona Academy at seventeen, he joined the military to serve his country.
It was while he was attending Liahona Academy that the desire to change his life took hold. It was then when he began to learn about the importance the Constitution and the freedoms that were founded upon Christian principles, in this country. Spurred on by what he learned from his parents and the entrepreneurial spirit of his best friend, he began to realize that he had complete control over his own life; that it was up to him and no one else to be happy and successful; that individual rights come from our creator - not some man-made organization.
So Ray studied more about the principles of freedom and prosperity. As a result "a new fire was ignited in his soul" to live the life that he once dreamed of. With this new outlook on life Ray pulled himself up and went back to living with purpose. At the age of 19 he chose to serve a mission for his church. Two years later, upon completion of that assignment, he decided to get a job and go to college. It seemed like the wise thing to do because he had always been taught in school that one cannot succeed without a college degree. However, instead of having those expectations fulfilled, he felt as if he was moving nowhere. What he was learning at school, and what he wanted to become, were two separate things. He felt as though getting a degree was pointless since there was no guarantee that he would get a job making more money or that it would secure his future; since most people who got their degrees never used them. There was nothing that taught him about building on the principles of success, only lessons consisting of strategies. For him, college seemed to condition people to become better employees rather than financially stable individuals or effective business owners.
After one semester, at the age of twenty-two, Ray dropped out of college and decided to team up with two of his best friends and start their own companies. Now, at the age of twenty-four, Ray has participated in growing several different companies and is fully involved with Guarding Freedom. He is dedicated to living and teaching key welfare principles in which he believes and knows that in order for an individual to change their world, it requires the people with whom the individual is involved to be united in the cause and support each other. That is why Guarding Freedom was established - to help us all become aware of our rights; where they come from; how to protect them; thereby uniting the people in restoring and defending freedom.
The reason why Ray is involved in this movement is because he believes all people should live a life full of joy, and excitement. He desires to help the people of this world understand that it is possible to have Liberty and God in their life and why they would want that. Guarding Freedom is how he can make this happen. In Ray's own words he states "It is the way for people to put aside our petty differences and unite on the common grounds known as freedom."
Biography of Ryan Casperson
Ryan Casperson grew up in Sandy, Utah, reared in a family of businessmen, his grandfather and father both in the construction field. Ryan did not know exactly what he would do for a living when he grew up, but knew he wanted to be wealthy and help many others prosper as well. After high school, Ryan attended college at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, and shortly after served a two year LDS church mission in London, England. When he returned, he was still unsure what he wanted to do for a living. He met many different college students from BYU and UVSC and soon realized that he wasn't the only one without a complete direction in life. These students were all going to school, working on different degrees, but none really had a firm idea of how they were going to utilize that degree upon graduation and others had no idea of what their major would even be. This was alarming to Ryan and strengthened his conviction of not working for "the man", but working for himself, therefore creating his own prosperity.
Ryan got involved with many different business ventures over the next seven years, many failed and became difficult to maintain. He saw how many of his then friends were not moving forward in life. He reached a point in his life where he knew it was time to get away from those who were not inspiring influences and move to a place where he could recoup his losses. He ventured out to Florida, with a determination to return wealthy. One friend asked him what he would do if he failed at his next business venture and Ryan replied "I won't come back until I succeed." This has always been a trait of his, to never give up on his dreams. His return home from Florida came when his father noticed his progression and wanted to team up together to do some real estate investing. This was at the time when the housing market started to take a down-turn and Ryan realized there must be another way to prosper in life than to be at the mercy of other people. He soon discovered principles that would set him free of this.
After returning, he met up with a long-time friend, Stuart Young. They had much in common still and were immediately discussing other creative ways of creating income. After rekindling their friendship Ryan was introduced to Ray Kahn, who has become another good friend. After a few months in business with Stuart and Ray, they all decided they wanted to help others become aware of the corruption in government today. They knew if they didn't do something now, they would be spending the rest of their lives wishing they had. Ryan's desire to help save Freedom also came from many discussions over the phone or in person with businessmen throughout the nation who love America but feel there is no hope to save it. These businessmen had felt strangled for the last few years by the regulations of government. He and his two business partners have felt this same government "bullying", on a personal level, running up against many regulations while starting a few businesses in an office building near their home town. He became even more shocked at the local government when attending a few different city council meetings where he saw there was no regard to principles or the Constitution. This is when he decided to get heavily involved in helping wake up the people to a realization of what they were allowing their own government, both locally and nationally, do to them.
Ryan is done with the government putting shackles on businessmen and citizens when there is no crime committed. He is done with the limits they put on citizens, stripping them of their God-given rights and private property. He desires strongly to help bring back these Freedoms every American has a right to. He studies the principles of the Constitution religiously and applies them daily to be able to stand firm in the fight for Liberty.
Biography of Stuart Young
Founder and CEO of Guarding Freedom, Stuart Young is, to say the least, an entrepreneur. Throughout Stuart's entire life he knew he wanted to be able to provide for his family. Stuart saw his father and though he admired and respected how hard he worked, his family had little to show for themselves other than a roof over their heads, clothes to wear and food most of the time. At the age of twelve, Stuart promised himself that he would find a way to provide more than the basics for his family. Stuart took a job as a machinist's assistant for $10 an hour and started his own landscaping company (which he still owns today). Through Stuart's high school and jr. high years he started several companies, at least ten MLM's, an eBay based business and a few service based businesses learning valuable lessons from each endeavor. Stuart graduated from Kimber Academy when he was sixteen. While the rest of his friends were still in high school, Stuart took a high paying sales job which he turned into an upper management position. Stuart was making great money for his age, 60k a year at sixteen, but was working 80-100 hours a week. Stuart learned that there was more to providing than working so hard. It was then that Stuart dedicated the majority of his economic studies to increasing income while decreasing time expended. Stuart quit that job at seventeen and started working his landscape company full time. He was making 35-100 dollars an hour (depending on how many workers he had on the job) and was still able to have a greater income than all his friends combined. However Stuart did not come off that way, he was always saving every coin for his next investment. Whether it was an online dating website, a home based store, or inventions, Stuart knew what he wanted and he knew he could get it.
Most people in Stuart's life did not share that same belief. His parents, younger siblings and a couple real close friends were the only people to stand by him. Stuart was always battling the "intellect" of people around him, some very close to him. They were telling him the same rhetoric he had always heard. "Go to school to get a job." "Get a real job!" "What if it fails? You need something to fall back on." "People who don't go to college fail in life". He started to learn that this road that he was embarking on was one that was very seldom travelled.
Stuart went on to serve an LDS mission to Costa Rica, being semi retired with three fully operational companies. When Stuart had returned they had all completely unraveled and he faced the decision of whether or not to start all over again. Stuart gladly took on the challenge of building his dream being faced with the alternative of taking a job working for someone else who was building their dream. He was moving forward when he discovered key welfare principles of self reliance. Stuart finally felt he could express and put into words what he had felt his entire life. Since then, Stuart has dedicated his time to helping others see what he knows to be true.
Stuart has several profitable companies. He and his wife have devoted their lives to seeking truth, learning about the Constitution, and serving God to the best of their abilities. The purpose of his company Guarding Freedom, is to encourage individuals to become better educated about our Constitution and our freedoms that are being taken advantage of daily.
Stuart chooses to write a "heroes story" and encourages others to do the same. Stuart loves to teach, he understands that each individual can control the outcome of their life by being self reliant and using their minds to create value. Stuart knows it would be almost impossible to fight this fight alone. This is why he has taken the time to create his company Guarding Freedom. He invites others to join in this cause and learn of the financial freedom that results from following the welfare principles addressed by our Founding Fathers. Stuart is dedicated to being a student and teacher of correct, true, and eternal principles.
He will continue his path by rearing his family in those principles and spreading what he has learned to as many people who will accept and value these ideas.
